Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Is it ok to use pressure treated lumber in the construction of docks and other projects  where contact with lake water will occur?
Susan's Answer: I hear that it is ok as long as the wood is well dried and not freshly treated. This is what Steve Hanna (Environmental Engineer - Shoreland Encroachment Program at VTDEC) tells people who are building docks. I haven't looked into this myself, and no doubt someone out there thinks its a bad idea.

Question: What is the current thinking on using soap while bathing in the lake?
Susan's Answer: Although a fine old tradition, bathing in the lake is frowned upon. Its one of those things that was fine when one person did it, but if everyone did.... Using natural, phosphorus-free soap would be a good idea if people insist. (Seems kind of funny to say PT wood is ok but soap isn't, but there you have it.
